Chest Appeals to All
September 22, 2008

On October 1st, the Concord-Carlisle Community Chest will launch its annual appeal on behalf of more than 35 human service agencies and programs. Residents and businesses alike are asked to contribute to the well-being of the community by making a single donation to the Chest. Proceeds will be allocated among many deserving organizations through the Chest’s all-volunteer allocations committee that begins meeting in January.

"When you make a contribution to the Community Chest, you are actually helping hundreds of people in Concord and Carlisle live better lives," said Sarah Newton, campaign co-chair. "The Chest ensures that your donation is distributed equitably to dozens of hard-working agencies in our area through our vigorous allocations process."

Several local resources and programs have been established over the last few years with financial seeding from the Community Chest: the Community Outreach Coordinator helps families in need find local resources, the Concord Fire Department’s S.A.F.E. program teaches elementary-aged children about fire safety, and the Teen Buddy program at Concord-Carlisle High School pairs younger at-risk students with older students in an after-school social mentoring program.

The Chest recently welcomed new board members Ann Sgarzi, Betsy Veidenheimer, Wayne Patenaude and Martha Gilpatrick Wolf, all of Concord, as well as Carlisle resident Gigi Cowan-Bondick. This year, the annual campaign will be led by experienced board members Sarah Newton, Nicole Kelly and John R. Hickling. Contributions and sponsorships in any amount are gratefully accepted by the Community Chest and can be mailed to 111 ORNAC, Concord, MA 01742. Donations are also accepted online at www.communitychest.org.
