Community Chest Challenges All

The Community Chest annual triathlon on June 1st was a fun family relay race
involving 32 teams from Concord, Carlisle and Maynard. Everyone pitched in
this year to make the fundraiser a great success as it was a logistical
challenge in many ways. With the closing of Flint's Bridge on Monument
Street just two weeks prior to the June 1st event and the National Park
Service discouraging race spectators from using the North Bridge, the route
was modified and participants had to plan new winning strategies. However,
the weather cooperated and the relay race went off without a hitch,
resulting in all teams crossing the finishing line and contributing
financially to human services in Concord, Carlisle and Maynard.

More than $26,000 was raised for local need through the efforts of more than
200 race participants and volunteers. The golden paddle top prize, awarded
for raising over $6,000, was presented to the Miracles team - for the second
year in a row! Other winning teams included:

Fastest women's team - Ms. Squitos

Fastest men's team - Mosquitos

Fastest mixed team - Concord Outfitters

Fastest youth team - Mosquito Magnets

Fastest corporate team - SolidWorks Competitive

Fastest agency - Gaining Ground

The Community Chest would like to thank Tom Beardsley, historic site manager
at the Old Manse, for granting full use of the beautiful grounds and boat
dock of this historic property for the race. Thanks also go out to all the
participants, volunteers and sponsors who made the event a success.
