Concord-Carlisle Community Chest Dedicated Funds

Targeted Giving Honor our Past...
In 1947, the founders of the Community Chest had a vision – a local partnership that would provide quality, affordable human services to Concord and Carlisle residents.

For more than 60 years, generous donors to the Community Chest have turned that vision into a reality by creating a caring network that enriches everyone’s lives.

...our Present and our Future
Donors to the Community Chest now support more than 35 agencies and programs that provide vital human services throughout our community. Some individuals have chosen to go beyond the Chest’s Annual Fund, expressing their generosity and compassion by creating a targeted and more lasting impact. These funds include the Cornerstone Fund, the Millennium Fund and, most recently, Field of Interest Funds.

The Community Chest has established three funds designed to support community needs that extend beyond the scope of the Annual Fund. Initiated in 1995 in memory of founding member Franklin Johnson, the Cornerstone Fund addresses the immediate needs of local agencies that arise outside of the Annual Campaign Fund allocations process.

The Cornerstone Fund has provided financing on innovative projects and initiatives such as:

  • Establishing a community outreach coordinator for residents of public housing and families in crisis
  • Creating affordable and accessible services at the new community swim facility
  • Building a skate park for safe youth recreation
  • Funding a high school and middle school teacher-student mentoring program
The Millennium Fund was established in 2000 as an endowment to ensure the long-term preservation of the Community Chest. Over time, income generated by this fund will be used to support Community Chest operations, ensuring that an ever greater proportion of Annual Campaign funds go directly to human service organizations that support the residents of Concord and Carlisle.

Field of Interest Funds are donor-driven funds, established by the Chest's board of directors in 2006, that require a minimum gift of $10,000 to be distributed over a mandatory three-year period. The funds are dispersed outside of the regular allocations process. In 2008, two funds were established for scholarships and the environment:

  • Scholarships enabled students in the Metco Program to attend summer camp and youth theater programs in Concord.
  • An environment-focused fund will be used to address environmental concerns and initiatives.
  • A community impact fund to help individuals and families cope with the impact of the current economic crisis.
