adVentures in Philanthropy: An Innovation Challenge for Non-Profits Serving Concord and Carlisle

The Concord Carlisle Community Chest has been growing new ideas in philanthropy since 1947. In continuation of this work to bring greater public awareness to innovative initiatives, we created a new funding opportunity in 2016-2017 titled adVentures in Philanthropy: An Innovation Challenge for Non-Profits Serving Concord and CarlisleThis inaugural grant program celebrats and supports innovative ideas addressing human service needs in our community.

We do not anticipate an adVentures opportunity in 2018.

The Opportunity

501c3 organizations or programs with a fiscal sponsor are invited to submit requests for funding of new initiatives. Up to three finalists will be selected and will present their concepts at a community-wide event. At the event, a panel of judges comprised of community leaders and non-profit executives will decide the distribution of up to $30,000 from the Chest’s Cornerstone Fund to the three finalists.

Project Requirements

adVentures grants will be awarded to new projects that address specific community needs and fall outside of the Community Chest’s annual grant-making process, which primarily supports established, ongoing efforts. Funding for both capital and programming expenses will be considered.

Specifically we are looking for projects that:

  • Address particular human services needs in our community;
  • Are well-defined and have clear objectives;
  • Are innovative in nature.

Process Overview

Completed applications are due in the fallMembers of the Cornerstone Committee will review all submitted applications and meet with selected organizations to review and discuss proposals.

Up to three finalists will be announced in January. The three finalist organizations will then present their ideas to the community at our adVentures in Philanthropy event in March (finalists will be provided with more detailed information about the event.) At the event, questions from the judges panel will be taken with the panel of judges deciding on the distribution of up to $30,000 among the three organizations.

Finalists will not be allowed to submit grant requests to the adVenture program in future years, this is a one-time only award to an organization, but are encouraged to continue working with the Community Chest to determine if other funding avenues are appropriate. Programs not selected for funding are allowed to submit requests through the adVenture program in future years.
